Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Thank you for taking the time to attend one of our recent parent-teacher conferences. Your involvement and support play a vital role in your child’s academic growth and success. What a pleasure it is for our teachers to meet to discuss your child’s progress, achievements, and areas for continued growth!

We appreciate your partnership in creating a positive and supportive learning environment, and we look forward to continuing our work together throughout the school year.

If you have any follow-up questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher(s).

Warm regards,

Mrs. Amy Nelson

The student intruder training went well today. The Plymouth Police Officers were very impressed with our students and how well they responded to the intruder training drills. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community safe.

Fire Prevention Month

October is Fire Prevention Month. The goal of this month is to raise fire safety awareness and to help protect lives. This week our younger students had the opportunity to see a Plymouth Fire Department truck up close and personal, and were able to review fire safety with a fireman. Thank you, Plymouth Fire Department! Families are encouraged to review fire escape plans in their homes, should they need to evacuate due to a fire, and to replace batteries in smoke detectors each year.

"St. Catherine, patron saint of fire prevention, we ask for your intercession to protect our homes, schools, and communities from flames and accidents. Guide firefighters as they risk their lives to save others, and give them strength and courage in their noble work."

School Music Concert Date Change

Earlier this week you received an email regarding our music concert date change. Our school concert will now be held on Monday, January 26 at 6:00pm in church. The date was changed to give our new music teacher, Miss Charbonneau, and our students the time they need to prepare for the concert. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Teacher Highlights

Name: Christina Gales

Grade/Subject: Kindergarten

Years in Education: 13 years

Background:

Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher. When I was in kindergarten, my teacher told me to use my "teacher voice" because I was so quiet. When I became the kindergarten teacher at SJB, I was able to connect with my kindergarten teacher and let her know that I am using my teacher voice to teach just like she taught me.

What I Love About Teaching:

I love learning and watching students learn and grow throughout the year.

Fun Fact:

I love to travel and will travel far for a good acai bowl.

What I’m Looking Forward to This Year:

I am most looking forward to building relationships with my students and families. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Name: Edward Kim

Grade/Subject: Middle School Math and Science

Years in Education: 9 years (including time as an undergraduate TA & tutor)

Background:

I was born in Palo Alto, California, but grew up in Illinois, where I earned a B.S. in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Before becoming a full-time educator, I worked in sports statistics and healthcare analytics. My teaching journey began as a university teaching assistant and continued through private tutoring in AP Calculus and Physics. After tutoring and teaching in California for several years, I moved to Wisconsin in 2024. I’m excited to be part of the SJB community and look forward to helping students grow in their understanding and confidence in math and science.

What I Love About Teaching:

I love teaching because it allows me to help students develop a deep, conceptual understanding of the material, rather than relying on rote memorization. This kind of growth not only supports their success in school, but also builds the critical thinking skills they’ll carry with them beyond the classroom.

Fun Fact:

I was in the stadium in Cleveland on the night the Cubs won the World Series in 2016.

What I’m Looking Forward to This Year:

This year, I’m looking forward to challenging students and helping them bring out the best in their logical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
